Want to make your home feel truly and genuinely clean? Then it is time to really commit to deep cleaning your home. But not sure where to start? Have no worries! Here is a 30 days of Deep Cleaning Your Home Challenge. Keeping a deep cleaning schedule is so essential for having a truly clean home!
Why try a deep cleaning challenge?
Sticking to a deep cleaning challenge is a fun and organized way to get your home truly and really cleaned.
A deep cleaning challenge helps hold you accountable because you need to mark everything off and it helps you plan in advance so you can ensure you have all the tools you need.
You can also schedule your days around how long each bit of deep cleaning will take and rearrange based on your month to put more time consuming cleaning projects on slower days. A deep cleaning schedule is my preferred way to keep my home clean!
What is a deep cleaning challenge? A deep cleaning challenge is pretty simple. It is just a certain amount of time (usually a month) where there are different household deep cleaning projects assigned to each day.
Day 1: Stove and oven- deep clean the inside and outside of the stove top and oven. Even take the racks out and soak them if necessary and then run a cleaning cycle as well.
Day 2: Linen closet– first step is to declutter your linen closet and then wipe it all down and then make sure every thing goes back in organized. Adding this to your deep cleaning schedule for once a quarter will really help.
Day 3: Wash the walls– grab a magic eraser for the spot cleaning and then wash down the rest of the walls.
Day 4: Under beds– pull everything out from under the beds and declutter out things you don’t need. And then put everything back in a more organized way with under bed storage containers.
Day 5: Fridge and Freezer– toss out anything that is expired and then wipe down the inside and outside of the fridge and freezer. Don’t forget to clean under the fridge too and add it to your deep cleaning schedule.
Day 6: Sinks– deep clean the sinks including organizing and cleaning the under sink storage.
Day 7: Tubs and toilets- deep clean your tubs and toilets. Including cleaning our the drain to the bath tub! For the toilets make sure to clean all over including behind them which tends to get forgotten about.
Day 8: Base boards– go through and take the time to wipe down all of the base boards. And add dusting them to your monthly deep cleaning schedule.
Day 9: Washing machine and dryer– run a cleaning cycle through the washing machine, clean the lint trap in the dryer, and then wipe down the outsides.
Day 10: Pantry and cupboards– this means wiping down the outside, decluttering the inside (make sure to check for expired food in the pantry) and wipe down the shelves on the inside. This is a deep cleaning tip that is often forgotten about!
Day 11: Under rugs and mats- cleaning out under the rugs and mats is an often forgotten about task. But this deep cleaning tips is so essential for getting built up dirt out of your home.
Day 12: Blinds and shutters– clean all your blinds and shutters by actually washing them with cleaning supplies not just dusting!
Day 13: Air vents and filter– clean out the dust and dirt from your air vents and change out your filter to put a new one in. I recommend cleaning this moving forward once a month or once a quarter.
Day 14: Small kitchen appliances– a lot of small kitchen appliances like air fryers and coffee makers, especially ones that are not generally as messy, get forgotten about. So go through and clean all your smaller appliances.
Day 15: Flip and rotate mattresses– flip, rotate, and vacuum all the mattresses in your home.
Day 16: Disinfect trash cans– this is a gross but needed deep clean project. I recommend doing this outside especially for any trash cans from the kitchen or garage. This is because they may need to be hosed down first.
Day 17: Wash windows– inside and outside if possible, including the window sills.
Day 18: Carpets– deep clean all the carpets. If you don’t have a carpet shampooing deep cleaner I recommend getting one like this.
Day 19: Hard to reach dusting– go through and use a Swiffer with an extendable handle that expands to reach high places. It can be hard to reach places like the top of mantles, high up pictures, and ceiling fans without one.
Day 20: Mop floors– mop all the floors including under rugs!
Day 21: Throw blankets and pillow covers- wash your throw blankets and pillow covers. And your decorative pillows that aren’t a pillow case but make sure to check for any special washing instructions.
Day 22: Medicine cabinet– pull everything out of the medicine cabinet! And then throw out any expired items then wipe everything down and put it all back in an organized style.
Day 23: Electronics- wipe down remotes, electronics, and clean keyboards (use a can like this to blow out the dust). Getting your electronics cleaned is also important for keeping things sanitized!
Day 24: Sweep porch, patio, balcony- any that apply to you go out and sweep and maybe mop them if applicable.
Day 25: Wash curtains– wash your regular curtains from your windows and shower curtains. Washing curtains is something often forgotten but is one of my favorite deep cleaning tips!
Day 26: Microwave and toaster– my biggest tip for cleaning microwaves is damping down a towel and putting it inside, turn it on for a minute and let it steam clean! then simply wipe it down.
Day 27: Garage floor– you may need to move items around/ clean up first and then use a large push broom for sweeping the garage floor.
Day 28: Wash bedding- washing the bedding from every bed in your home can be time consuming! So I recommend starting early in the day and just cycling throughout the day.
Day 29: Mirrors– grab your materials and go through and clean all the mirrors in your house. You’ll be so happy to see those shiny clean reflections!
Day 30: Clean car– inside and out! Take it to a car wash and also vacuum the inside and clean it all out.
